Malaysia Air Flight 370: Here Are The Biggest Questions

Controversy still surrounds Malaysia Airlines flight 370, the flight that mysteriously disappeared off the radar on March 8, carrying 239 passengers. While many speculators believe the plane was most likely <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/malaysia-airlines-flight-370-likely-hijacked-2014-03">hijacked</A>, there are still several questions left unanswered by the bizarre disappearance of flight 370. The biggest question is, well, where exactly is the plane now? CNN <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/13/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-questions/index.html">reports</A> that search crews have stretched to the Gulf of Thailand, South China Sea, and the Indian Ocean. The transponder, a radio transmitter that connects to air traffic control, had stopped working at 1:07 am. Why it stopped working is the question at large. Without the transponder, the flight is virtually invisible, allowing it to manipulated freely. Many speculate that if the pilot didn’t turn off the transponder, a hijacker did. There’s also no evidence to support a pilot’s error in the flight’s disappearance. The pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, has over 18,000 flying hours and 20 years of experience. There was also no inclement weather at the time of disappearance. Does this mean the plane could have safely landed somewhere? It’s a popular theory, as a new report from the Wall Street Journal <a href="http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304914904579440293337311848?mg=reno64-wsj&url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424052702304914904579440293337311848.html">says</A> that there’s recent satellite information that shows communication from the plane at 8:11 am – seven hours after its disappearance. It’s possible the plane was landed on a remote island, although a plane as large as a Boeing 777 requires at least a mile-long strip for landing. And if it had crashed on land, the plane’s emergency beacon would have automatically flashed on the radar. Did the Malaysian Airlines Flight land on water, then? CNN says that it’s possible: emergency beacons are significantly harder to find in water landings. After flying for nearly eight hours, the plane could have sank in-tact, which would explain why there aren’t any traces of the plane’s debris. Whether the plane sunk in water or is currently hidden landed off-radar, it’s clear there are still many unanswered questions regarding this mysterious disappearance. David Brenner, a beloved comedian who guest starred often on The Tonight Show, died Saturday at his New York City home in the company of his family at the age of 78. By now you have likely heard about how a <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/malaysia-airlines-plane-vanishes-search-underway-2014-03">Malaysia Airlines flight went missing</A> over a week ago. Even as twenty different countries search for some remnants of the Boeing 777, it seems that an old Malaysia Airlines advertisement has surfaced. An ad that in retrospect appears disturbingly ironic.If you’re on Twitter, you may have seen an image being re-tweeted that is supposedly a snapshot of the Malaysia Airlines website featuring a pair of images used to advertise for the airlines.One image features what is supposedly a Malaysia Airlines jet airliner flying through the clouds next to the phrase, “Our New Boeing 777: Lose Yourself On A Journey Of Epic Proportions”.Youch.Another image features a man and woman embracing in an exotic location next to the words, “Wherever you go, no one will ever know.” While the first image ad seemed an unfortunate coincidence, this second quote seems downright ominous.And it is that ominous tone that should help clue you into the fact that these ads are fake.The strongest indication that this is a photo manipuation is how the plane shown is supposed to be a Boeing 777. <BLOCKQUOTE lang=en class=twitter-tweet readability="8">Well this old Malaysia Airlines ad is rather awkward. <a href="http://t.co/nTPud7sfpP">pic.twitter.com/nTPud7sfpP</A>— Will McHoebag (@WillMcHoebag) <a href="https://twitter.com/WillMcHoebag/statuses/445128657955459072">March 16, 2014</A></BLOCKQUOTE>If you know nothing about planes, it likely seems an accurate enough image and many people will likely be fooled.However, those persons who do know planes are saying the featured jet airline is NOT a Boeing 777, but is in fact a Boeing A380. Are we to believe that Malaysia Airlines would advertise a A380 as a 777? Wouldn’t Boeing have a thing or two to say about such an ad? No doubt such a mistake would have been newsworthy. And with a week having gone by, it’s highly unlikely we so much time would have passed before these images surfaced.Aside from the problem with the featured airplane, there’s also the wording of the second image ad as it relates to the first image ad. Both hint at disappearing and never being heard from again. It’s just too much of a coincidence to be an a genuine image from the Malaysia Airlines website.Thanks to the sharp eyes of folks on social media, we can call this out as the tasteless hoax that it is. Some angry netizens are already blaming 4chan, a forum known for a brand of humor that moves towards an extreme that is often tasteless and cruel.Whether or not the board is to blame is irrelevant. Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law is facing more protests and backlash than ever as the two year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death passes. Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, recently spoke with <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/news/mothers-of-trayvon-martin-and-jordan-davis-team-up-to-stand-up-to-stand-your-ground-law/">CBS</A> about her views on this controversial law. “We don’t have to have a law in place that says, ‘I need to shoot and kill someone and then ask questions later’… [we're] going to make positive change to make sure that ‘stand your ground’ doesn’t continue to happen,” she says in the interview. The “Stand Your Ground” law allows citizens the right to use deadly force to defend themselves without any other requirement. Trayvon was unarmed when shot by George Zimmerman in February 2012. Zimmerman claimed it was self-defense and cited the “Stand Your Ground” law to justify his actions. Despite the protest, Florida lawmakers are ready to expand on the law, not repeal it. Two bills are currently in consideration that would let citizens who are in fear of their life to fire a “warning shot” first. Bill sponsors, however, don’t see it as an extension of the law, but instead as a “clarification.” CBS claims that it’s likely that Rick Scott, Florida’s governor, will sign the bill into law. Lucia McBath, another Florida mother who lost a son to a gunmen claiming self defense, says inclusion of warning shots in the law is “heinous.” “More lives are at risk, more people will shoot their guns and claim, ‘Well, it was just a warning shot’,” she says. Trayvon’s mother Sybrina has also been active nationwide against gun violence, recently speaking out about profiling against children. “If it happened to Trayvon, it can happen to other kids as well. We have work to do we have to stay busy, vigilant on trying to solve this issue,” she <a href="http://www.620wtmj.com/news/local/Trayvon-Martins-mom-makes-Milwaukee-appearance-250454181.html">spoke</A> at a Milwaulke Technical College in a keynote address.
